About us

Canberrans for a Good Death was an informal alliance formed in early 2024 of people living in the Canberra region,.

We aimed to educate the community about the Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation which was passed by the ACT Legislative Assembly in June 2024 and which comes into effect in November 2025.

In particular we aimed to highlight the significant limitations of the legislation, and to encourage elected Assembly representatives to improve the legislation in the nearer future rather than wait for the legislated review in 2029-30.

Our group is no longer operating, and the task of further activism has been passed to Dying with Dignity ACT. But our web page will stay in place for some time as a public record.

Our “Facts” page outlines the basic facts about the VAD legislation and who will (and will not) be eligible for VAD.

Our “Links” page contains links to resources about VAD in the ACT including ACT Government information.

Our “Contact” page allows you to send us a message. But note that we do not respond to people living outside Australia, or people asking us for information that is already available on our website.

Our “Community Survey” page has results of a Canberra community attitude survey conducted by YOUGOV in June 2024

Our “Candidate Survey” page outlines the response to our survey of candidates in the 2024 election for the ACT Legislative Assembly
